Several companies including Bashundhara Group will pay Rs 2,000 per month to the ship workers
Bashundhara Group and some other big industrial establishments of the country have stood by the ship workers engaged in the transportation of goods. It has been announced to give food allowance of Tk 2,000 per person per month for the workers and employees of these organizations.
Meanwhile, to stop extortion and robbery on the waterways, to ensure payment of wages to ship workers as per the gazette announced in 2016, to provide landing pass and food allowance to Indian-bound workers, to fix compensation of Tk 10 lakh for workers killed in workplace accidents and to provide employment, identity card and service book The Shipping Workers Federation has called a strike to demand 11 points including Dewa.
The nationwide strike began at midnight on Monday. Workers have claimed that more than two lakh workers have stopped work across the country. As a result, transportation of goods in different waterways of the country has been stopped. It has also affected the ports. The movement of goods also became almost non-existent due to the closure of lighter vessels. Chittagong has been most affected. There was a stalemate in the transportation of goods from Dhaka to other areas as well.
