Dhaka: Arrested members of the ring, led by arrested Kazi Masud Parvez, had been sitting in the capital for a long time making fake notes and supplying them.  In addition to counterfeit notes, this cycle has been preparing counterfeit dollars.  

He used to sell counterfeit notes worth Tk 100,000 for Tk 20,000 each, police said.  

AKM Hafeez Akhter, Additional Commissioner of Police, Detective Branch (DB) of the DMP, said this at a press conference at the DMP's media center on Minto Road in the capital on Saturday (August 24).

Earlier on October 23, the Tejgaon Division of the Detective Branch (DB) arrested six members of the counterfeit note-making ring, including Kazi Masud Parvez, in a raid at Kotwali and Adabar police stations in the capital.  The rest of the arrested members are- Md.  Mamun, Shimu, Ruhul Alam, Sohail Rana and Nazmul Haque.  

AKM Hafeez Akhter, Additional Commissioner of Police, Detective Branch (DB), said they were arrested in a raid in Kotwali and Adabar areas of the capital with the help of intelligence and information technology. Two lakh bundles of counterfeit note paper, a laptop, two scanners, a laminator, two printers, 12 tracing plates, five rim counterfeit note printing paper, eight Bottles of different colors, counterfeit money serial number seals and a premium private car were recovered.

He said the cycle had been making counterfeit notes for the last five to six years.  They used to make counterfeit notes and counterfeit dollars and then sell and market them in retail and wholesale.  
Although the cycle produced counterfeit notes throughout the year, they also made and marketed counterfeit notes centered on various religious ceremonies, including Eid and Puja. First we arrested the accused Mamun and Shimu and then on the basis of the information given by them, the rest including Mulhota of the gang were arrested.  

He further said that there are cases in different police stations in the name of Kazi Raihan Parvez, the ringleader of this gang.

We have sent the accused to the court for remand.  If you interrogate them, you will know more details about this cycle.  A case has been filed against the accused under the Special Powers Act to prevent them from being released on bail, said Hafiz Akter, Additional Commissioner of Police, DB.
