The United Nations assistant secretary general Christian Francis Saunders on Wednesday lauded the contribution and outstanding performance of Bangladesh Police in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission.
Christian Francis Saunders made the remarks during a courtesy call on Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed at the police headquarters in the morning, said a police headquarter press release.
It said that the assistant secretary general lauded the professionalism of the police personnel and said that they were playing a unique role in peace in various war-torn countries in the world.
He also emphasised the importance of sending more women members of police to peacekeeping missions and using renewable energy to conserve the environment.
Terming Bangladesh as one of the top troop sending countries in the UN Peacekeeping Mission, the police chief said that the Bangladeshi peacekeepers had been able to prove their determination in global peacekeeping and the trend would continue in the future.
He expressed his gratitude to the UN secretary general and the concerned authorities for providing overall support to the Bangladesh Police in the UN Peacekeeping Mission.
Additional inspector general (human resources management) Md Mazharul Islam, deputy inspector general (operations, media and planning) Md Haider Ali Khan,
defence advisor to Bangladesh permanent mission to the United Nations, Brigadier General Md Sadekumaman, and assistant inspector general (UN affairs operations) Nasian Wazed, among others, were present.
