Dhaka: Senior Supreme Court lawyer and former Attorney General Barrister Rafiq-ul Haq was not only a reputed lawyer, but also a giant.
The child of the doctor's father was the chairman of the Ad-Din Foundation.


This Supreme Court lawyer was born on 2 November 1935 in the village of Subarnapur in Calcutta, British India. Father Mumin-ul Haq was a doctor by profession. Mother Nurjahan Begum. He studied at Chetla School in Kolkata. Rafiq-ul Haq passed matriculation in 1951. He graduated from Calcutta University in 1955 and obtained his master's degree in philosophy in 1956. Passed LLB in 1958. He then started his legal career in the Calcutta High Court as a lawyer.

In 1972, he was called to Lincoln's Inn, an elite bar association in London. Despite the aristocracy's handcuffs, he returned to Dhaka in the same year. He became a Supreme Court lawyer in 1985 and a senior lawyer in the Appellate Division in 1983.

Later, Barrister Rafiq-ul Haq was the Attorney General of Bangladesh from 6 April to 16 December 1990. But why not take salary allowance.

At one-eleven, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia were lawyers.

In 2011, the wife of Barrister Rafiq-ul Haq died of cancer. His only son Barrister Fahimul Haque is also in the legal profession.

Rafiq-ul Haq has established several hospitals, orphanages, mosques and medical colleges.A 100-bed hospital is under construction at Kaliakair in Gazipur. Besides, he established Subarna Clinic in 1995; He also played a role in the establishment of Dhaka Children's Hospital. Rafiq-ul Haq, Chairman, Department of Microbiology, Nurjahan Ward, Ahsania Mission Cancer Hospital and Ad-Din Medical College Hospital, Bardem Hospital. He was directly involved with at least 25 service organizations.

Barrister Rafiq-ul Haq died at the Ad-Din Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the capital's Moghbazar on Saturday (October 24th) at around 8.30am.
